TIPS FOR CALCULATING THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF DRINKS FOR YOUR WEDDING RECEPTION

Opting for a blank canvas venue or organizing a Tipi or Marquee wedding on your own property comes with the advantage of being able to offer drinks to guests without incurring any corkage fees.

Which is great in theory, but then can be a little daunting when it comes to figuring out how much is needed. Over doing it means wasting money and potentially being stuck with the left overs for months. Or not getting enough means running out on the day and leaving guests without.

I have some tips on how to avoid both, and help you calculate just what you need.

Welcome Drinks

When planning the drinks for your event, start by considering the options you want to offer your guests. Typically, this includes a glass of prosecco or a bottle of lager, which are both simple to calculate.

It is important to remember that a bottle of prosecco serves 6 glasses. Therefore, for a wedding with 80 guests, 14 bottles of prosecco would be required to provide each guest with a glass.

During a drinks reception lasting 60-90 minutes, anticipate serving 2-3 drinks per guest.

If only prosecco is served, 40 bottles will be needed.

When splitting between prosecco and bottled lager in a 50/50 ratio, you will require 20 bottles of prosecco and 120 bottles of lager (40 guests, 3 bottles per person).

Table Wine

Half a bottle of wine per person is ample during the wedding breakfast. This can be split 50/50 red and white wine, or can be tailored based personal preferences.

80 guests would require 40 bottles of wine, 20 red and 20 white if splitting equally.

Toast Drinks

Served before the speeches, a glass of prosecco is usually served for guests to raise a glass and toats to the happy couple.

This is to be calculated the same way as the welcome drinks, with 80 guests requiring 14 bottles of prosecco.

Evening Reception

Now this is the part where thing get a little bit trickier to gauge, with people drinking different drinks and all at their own individual pace.

Having a mobile bar service for the evening reception, or better yet throughout the whole day, can really help take the pressure off and ensure guests are happy and taken care of.

If you'd like to know what a mobile bar service would look like on your big day, and what drinks would be on offer then get in touch.
